Ton-and-a-Half?

This is a very brief excerpt from Distance Memories, written as 2010 was drawing to a close:

I read somewhere a long time ago that a person needs to run 37 miles to burn off a pound of fat (Note: I’ve subsequently researched this subject, and while opinions differ greatly, 37 pounds appears to be a good compromise).  That being said, I would weight over a ton-and-a-half more than I currently weigh if I did not run.  Today I weigh 150 pounds; had I not run a step these past 32 years I would weigh in at an astounding 3,447 pounds—slightly larger than the 850 pound man Maury Povich rescued from his apartment by knocking out the window and flying him via helicopter to a local hospital.

Note: If my logic is wrong, please explain it to me in the 'Comment' section below--I'd love to hear it!
